Uganda lies where the savannahs of East Africa give way to central Africa's rainforests. Aptly nicknamed the Pearl of Africa, this small country shimmers with life and biodiversity, from its patchwork of landscapes to the great apes and other wildlife that inhabit them.
It is a record holder for the continent: the tallest mountain range, the largest lake and the source of the Nile, Africa's longest river, are all found here. The headline attraction, though, is tracking endangered mountain gorillas through the misty forests of Bwindi.

In the far southwest, the misty forest of Bwindi is home to more than half of the world's remaining mountain gorillas. Tracking these majestic giants through their dense, leafy habitat is a truly life changing wildlife encounter.
At Murchison the Nile plunges 45 metres down a narrow gorge on its way to Lake Albert. Together with its surrounds it forms Uganda's largest national park, where fertile soils feed abundant wildlife and more than 450 bird species, among them the rare and prehistoric looking shoebill stork.
In the southwest, set against the backdrop of the Rwenzori Mountains, Queen Elizabeth gathers a whole variety of ecosystems: shady forests, wetlands and lakes, and sprawling savannah where Uganda's famous tree climbing lions can be found.
In the west, the evergreen forest of Kibale hosts the highest number and diversity of primates in Africa: thirteen species in all, including a population of more than 1,450 chimpanzees.
The remote Kidepo Valley in the north is the perfect place for a safari far from the crowds. It is also home to the Karamojong people, nomadic pastoralists whose culture and traditions remain rooted in the past.
