Namibia is a land of untouched landscapes, near constant sunshine and surprising wildlife. With one of the lowest population densities in the world, its wide horizons and clean, unpolluted skies create a rare feeling of freedom and stillness, set in scenery whose colours and contrasts exist nowhere else. Woven through it all is a rich blend of cultures and traditions.
It was also the first country anywhere to write environmental protection and the sustainable use of wildlife into its constitution. Roughly 15.5 percent of the land is set aside as national parks, safeguarding rare and endangered animals, birds and plants.

Covering more than 49,000 square kilometres, the Namib Naukluft is Namibia's largest conservation area and the fourth largest in the world. Within it lie part of the Namib Desert with the tallest dunes on Earth, the Naukluft mountain range, the long lagoon at Sandwich Harbour that draws birds in vast numbers, and the celebrated dune ringed pan of Sossusvlei.
An iconic dune wonderland deep in the Namib, where walls of sand more than 300 metres high surround a great dried up pan. The sand runs to the horizon in shades from pale apricot to vivid orange and red, and in every season oryx, springbok and ostrich can be seen feeding on the sparse vegetation along the old water courses.
A ghost town from the days of the diamond rush, slowly being reclaimed by the desert. Sand has moved into its once grand houses, and wandering the ruins you can only imagine the wealth that passed through here a century ago.
One of Africa's great wildlife sanctuaries, Etosha spans more than 22,000 square kilometres around its vast salt pan, the place of dry water, a white expanse of shimmering mirages where large herds of game roam between the waterholes.
A region of rolling plains, distant mountain ranges and strange geological formations. An extraordinary wealth of rock paintings and engravings sits alongside populations of desert elephant and black rhino, pairing deep human history with rare wildlife encounters.
